Primary Function

The Plant Controller is responsible for the Finance and Accounting functions of the Manufacturing business.  Duties include coordination & execution of all Manufacturing accounting activities for the business.  In addition, this position will work with management to build Manufacturing forecast updates, prepare reports and analyze variations to forecast and plan.   Lastly this person will work to ensure accurate financial statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  The Controller will be the most senior and sole finance professional at our Charlotte facility, which is home to 75 employees. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage general cost, inventory and fixed asset accounting, accounts payable and month end close process while accurately analyzing and reporting timely financial results
  • Ensure effective and efficient system of internal controls including data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and adherence to corporate policies and government regulations while supporting the internal and external audit process.
  • Ability to execute successfully all aspects of Cost Accounting duties, including:
    • Plan, study and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor are appropriately assigned and accounted for.
    • Responsible for developing annual overhead standards and periodically reviewing those standards
    • Analyze product cost including materials, labor and manufacturing overhead and inventory / stocking valuation levels. (Standards & variance analysis).
  • Manage & execute all Manufacturing accounting processes for division and ensure month end close processes are completed timely and in adherence with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP)
  • Responsible for driving projects to help improve performance and to create accounting processes and accounting controls in a dynamic business environment as the business expands and new business processes are created
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Work with the Purchasing, Production and Warehouse team on inventory related issues
  • Ensure Payroll activities and are completed timely and adequate controls exist
  • Ensure inventory cost accounting system properly records inventory and costs of goods sold at the product level   
  • Preparation of monthly forecasts, annual plan and other financial analysis of Manufacturing activities as necessary
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed
  • Provide cross-functional support and lead specific business initiatives/projects and to help ensure financial goals are met
  • Ability to successfully manage time, and prioritize as required for current state of events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with preference for a CPA
  • Strength in cost accounting, forecasting and budgeting at the plant level
  • Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision and work in cross-functional teams
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP; accounting experience in a publicly traded company 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and accounting software
  • Strong sense of judgment, decision making, and complex problem solving
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and written, especially communication of financial results and information
  • Strong attention to detail and high organization skills
  • Strong business and financial acumen
