Primary Function

Working as the Buyer, you will identify, research and evaluate suppliers that meet the organizations standards of price, quality, timing and reliably of supply. You will have responsibility of the development and management of moderate and complex supplier relationships that provide the best cost, quality, and delivery of commodities that, in turn, contribute to the growth of A. O. Smith.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and evaluate sales, promotional campaigns and other opportunities to secure reduced prices.
  • Assess supplier products to ensure that they comply with specifications and meet the organization quality standards,
  • Analyze and evaluate supplier bids, tenders, proposal or quotations.
  • Negotiate prices and delivery conditions; commit to purchase within established limits of authority with terms that are in the organizations best interest. 
  • Complete requests for quotes and cost analysis.
  • Understand and manage elements of total cost.
  • Negotiate cost and terms with suppliers.
  • Communicate with and visit suppliers.
  • Load planning parameters for new purchase parts.
  • Analyze planner messages.
  • Create and release purchase orders. 
  • Approve invoices from suppliers. 
  • Confirm timely and complete receipts according to production requirements.
  • Measure supplier performance in delivery and quality.
  • Achieve inventory and turns results.
  • Work with Engineering on project redesigns and new releases to complete supplier selection.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers.
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate blanket/purchase order releases to support production requirements.
  • Establish input into the system for ordering and invoice payment.
  • Maintain inventory levels to meet inventory turns goals.
  • Measure and monitor supplier performance in areas of on time delivery, cost of poor quality, lead-time, and purchase price variance.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action when suppliers are non-compliant in any area.
  • Conduct legal and ethical business relationships with suppliers.
  • Benchmark leading supply chain practitioners and develop world class practices.
  • Build alliances across departments.
  • Continue to develop and/or improve skills vital for business growth.
  • Anticipate and adapt to change.
  • Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and proven track record of team participation success. 
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
