APCOM is a component part manufacturing business unit of A.O. Smith that produces parts such as thermostats, heating elements, dip-tubes and drain valves for water heaters. We are currently seeking a Project Engineer for our Franklin, TN location.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Manage new product development, product improvement and cost savings projects from start to finish while meeting target schedules and staying within budget.
  • Conduct project meetings, document action items and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within the team and to management.
  • Work with drafting to create solid models and drawings.
  • Create and maintain DFMEA documentation.
  • Specify and coordinate verification, validation and reliability testing.
  • Write part/product dispositions for non-conforming materials or other special circumstances.
  • Utilize lean tools such as A3 and 8 Step Problem Solving to determine root-cause and a resolution path for product or manufacturing issues.
  • Assist with evaluating new suppliers and cost reduction opportunities proposed by suppliers.
  • Support quotation activities.
  • Communicate and visit with customers to answer questions, review projects, discuss new applications and gain a deep understanding of what they value.
  • Work with product certification agencies such as UL and CSA to achieve and maintain certification.
  • Work with Quality and Mfg. Eng. to specify ongoing manufacturing test requirements.
  • Author new product change requests in the SAP ERP system.
  • Must engage closely with manufacturing plant floor team when questions or concerns arise.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or any other 3-D CAD design software is a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
