Sales Director - Retail

Primary Function

Executive Management function with overall responsibility for the largest single customer within the organization.   Confers with other officers to plan business objectives and develop organizational policy.  This position will develop and lead sales strategy, contribute to and execute marketing/product lifecycle management strategy, and lead integration with supply chain management strategy in order to achieve revenue targets and service goals for the account.  Reports to the Vice President of Retail Sales.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the performance and results of a large and organizationally complex key national account.
  •  Responsible for developing and strengthening the long-term partnership of the account while also managing profitability.
  • Execute, support and monitor company sales goals and objectives as stated in the annual “plan”.
  • Enrich sales, marketing, and supply chain strategy development by providing an in-depth key customer perspective.
  • Lead integration between sales and operations related functional areas in order to achieve unity of purpose – cost effective customer service excellence.
  • Maintain and leverage in-depth knowledge of supply chain processes and teams in order to guide and direct the smooth flow of customer orders, from PO to delivery.
  • Coordinate sales forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes for key account, striving to maintain a high level of precision, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with senior marketing leadership to ensure customer specific marketing initiatives are in alignment and in support of the overall marketing strategy, specifically related to building brand equity.
  • Direct customer level digital merchandising activities to drive increased sales and promote our brand image.
  • Lead and direct new product introductions and product transitions to meet customer time requirements, ensuring seamless integration into customer systems and communication with our internal ERP system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Business or other analytically focused field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of related work experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in sales operations, preferably big box retail supporting retailers with 500+ stores nationwide. 
  • Strong business acumen, the consistent ability to make successful decisions that support functional strategy in a timely manner based on essential detail.
  • Ability to direct work across functional areas on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, managing analytically rigorous initiatives.

  • Ability to travel 30% of time.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and process improvement approach to meet both organizational and customer’s needs.
  • Track record of innovative approaches and solutions to complex issues.
  • Strong analytical skills, planning and organizational skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office competency, particularly Excel & PowerPoint
  • Honed negotiation skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Education

Baccalaureate in Business Management or Related Field
