We are looking for a Project Design Engineer – Firmware at our Lebanon, TN headquarters and manufacturing facility. 

 

Responsible for the design and development of applications on control systems used in residential and commercial water heaters and boilers with focus on safety, quality, reliability and customer satisfaction.  Individual will be involved throughout the design process beginning with conceptual design through the implementation stages and continuing with product support after product is introduced in the marketplace. Engineer will also participate in preparation of proposals and estimations required for project approval. Engineer may also manage projects related to electronic controls.

Primary Function

  • Skilled in the development of Embedded Linux, Android, FreeRTOS and other embedded industrial operating systems.
  • Experience in integration and testing of hardware, firmware and software
  • Experience with communications protocols, I2C, SPI, USB, RS485, RS232, Ethernet, IoT, networking and other “connected device” principles.
  • Experience working with ARM/Cortex based processors
  • Experience working with Android Apps, Low level software, drivers and programs.
  • Self-motivated with desire to learn and apply new technology.
  • Can work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Good and demonstratable understanding of problem solving, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Hands on person with a sense of curiosity.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Designs, develops, tests, debugs, and implements, firmware, drivers and application software for embedded industrial hardware
  • Creation of product specifications, Statement of Work, from customer requirements.
  • Experimenting with new control systems and supporting components.
  • Participating in design reviews.
  • Documenting testing and generating reports.
  • Familiar with programming languages C/C++/Java
  • Knowledge and implementation of automated programming and testing tools
  • Must be able to work within a team environment.

 

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Organizational skills to allow participation in multiple projects.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Has a fundamental understanding of problem solving, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Being able to follow precise instructions.
  • Familiarity with basic test instrumentation (multimeters, oscilloscopes etc.).
  • Experienced in cross-platform and native (Android &IOS) app development.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an ABET accredited four-year college or university in Sciences or Engineering. Preferably in electrical engineering or computer science
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals (Including basic interpretation of electrical schematics, wiring and block diagrams.).
  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members, external customers and supplier personnel.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience; co-op/intern or related experience.
