This role is located in our modern Nashville Metro Center office, located just minutes from downtown with easy interstate access and free parking.

Primary Function

The Capital Procurement Manager will be accountable for the strategy, risk mitigation and continuous improvement of the procurement process of capital expenditures across A.O. Smith N. American business units.

Additionally, The Capital Procurement Manager will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders & external supply base to lead execution of capital projects and ensure procurement policies are followed. Be a trusted partner across business units and provide process, guidance and gain a deep understanding of what is required for the successful execution of capital projects. Leverage internal & external relationships to ensure proper expertise and experience is being utilized for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leads cross-functional global teams through the strategic sourcing process in a matrix organization

  • Leads detailed negotiations and contract creation in close collaboration with legal department for all organizational commitments for capital projects

  • Ownership & continuously improve the capital procurement process for the company through metrics and analytics

  • Collaborate & Partner with related engineering and operational functions to gain an excellent understanding of capital requirements throughout the corporation

  • Actively demonstrates excellent customer service to internal business partners and supply base

  • Manages designated relationships through supervision of supplier performance, delivery, quality and AP to ensure project timelines are not compromised

  • Maintain an excellent communication and rapport with each manufacturing facility & engineering team concerning ongoing capital needs for current and future discussions/negotiations with supply base

  • Provide procurement training and support to the cross functional teams involved in the Capital Procurement Process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field.  MBA a plus.

  • 10+ years of experience in a combination of procurement and manufacturing engineering roles

  • Strong negotiation skills and working knowledge of contract law and principles

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to serve as a project lead across multiple functional areas

  • Strategic thinking and business acumen

  • Proven success in a self-motivating, results oriented environment

  • Track record of successful strategic sourcing initiatives

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Impeccable moral character and high ethical standards

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Willingness to travel as required to manufacturing sites or supplier locations

  • Certification in ISM, APICS or other engineering organization a plus
