Overview

Shipping & Materials Manager

The Shipping & Materials Manager is responsible for all aspects of the materials department’s operations, such as material procurement, production scheduling and inventory control to guarantee operations. Leads MRP activities such as forecasts and customer orders analyses.  Directs the activities of the team members and their development plans.  Participates in the elaboration of policies and procedures related to materials, warehouses, deliveries, cycle counting, distribution and production planning.

Responsibilities

  1. Planning, master scheduling, shipping, distribution and purchasing
  2. Procuring all necessary components for the assembly schedule through Kanban and supplier releases as well as maintaining an accurate inventory of component parts
  3. Analyzes customer orders and forecasts.
  4. Leads production plan activities.
  5. Procure material to complete operations.
  6. Develops, implements and follows up the planning of activities to comply with on time customers’ orders.
  7. Leads warehouse distribution and transportation activities.
  8. Empowers team members to perform MRO and MRP purchasing and expediting activities.
  9. Leads the materials team towards the accomplishment of strategies and metrics.
  10. Coaches and develops team members for an outstanding contribution.
  11. Promotes Company’s Mission, Vision, Strategies and Guiding Principles.
  12. Considers best price, quality, availability and reliability when purchasing products.
  13. Ensures materials and parts in the supply chain meet minimum requirements for quality assurance standards.
  14. Leads materials and parts tests.
  15. Develops policies and procedures in the areas of procurement, inventory control, receiving, storage and distribution of supplies.
  16. Interfaces directly with all departments in the plant with regards to materials that have been requested to determine specifications and needs.
  17. Maintains adequate supply levels throughout the plants and distribution center to maintain inventories to the lowest levels.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business Management
  • 2-3 Years of Supervisory/Leadership experience in a manufacturing/assembly plant environment
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience. 
  • Experience shipping large volumes of parcel shipments, especially to Amazon as a customer.
  • Experience in materials management position, which includes expertise in Supply Chain Management, Material Sourcing, Logistics Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting
  • APICS Certification desired
  • Lean Manufacturing experience, including Kanban.
  • Planning, master scheduling, shipping, distribution and purchasing.
  • Purchasing parts scheduling and ordering, on-time material delivery and inventory control
  • Supervision of hourly and salaried reports who monitor the schedule, supply the line and expedite when necessary.
  • Procuring all necessary components for the assembly schedule through Kanban and supplier releases as well as maintaining an accurate inventory of component parts
  • Bilingual English-Spanish a plus
