Primary Function

Designs, arranges, and builds experimental subassemblies and prototype models requiring a high degree of accuracy. Analyzes engineering specifications, sketches, and drawings and applies information to construct special tools or fittings to build models. Acts as a mentor within the group who will train less experienced prototype technicians and will also collaborate with engineers throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to local site and operating units as necessary to maintain excellent communication with all outside personnel involved.
  • Design new products and processes in order to improve and maintain existing products.
  • May conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, and reliable.
  • Assist designer and engineers in development work, including skilled fitting, timing adjustment, and construction of tools. 
  • Produce complex pattern designs using CAD tools.
  • Prepare detailed drawings of products from sketches using software tools, ensuring that drawings incorporate all design features and maintain the product style.
  • May provide work direction to less experienced CAD designers.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in related field
  • 7+ years of related work experience or training
  • Ability to use computer software including MS Office, CAD, and SolidWorks
  • Ability to read blueprints and work from sketches
  • Ability to  coordinate and prioritize project tasks
  • Effective written & verbal communication

Associate Degree in Related Field

Years of Experience

Minimum of 7 years of related work experience or training
