Primary Function

The Global Senior Process Engineer - Electrical will be responsible for working with all A.O. Smith facilities and providing expert electrical guidance & support as subject matter expert (SME) for their electrical distribution infrastructure systems and equipment functions.  This position will also provide electrical process engineering support for our global energy reduction and controls technology related initiatives. 

Scope of Responsibility

Works with Global Director of Manufacturing & Process Engineering, facility manufacturing engineering, maintenance & production, and their respective teams in providing electrical process engineering support and SME guidance to ensure electrical safety standard compliance and electrical distribution equipment integrity & functionality.  This position will also provide electrical process engineering expertise for major projects involving electrical systems and distribution of power, ensuring alignment between need, technology, and application. The Global Senior Process Engineer – Electrical will maintain a current and broad understanding of electrical safety related specifications, standards, and regulations (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, etc.) that apply to electrical and energy related systems within manufacturing operations. This position will also be responsible for developing and enforcing a standard set of A.O. Smith policies, metrics, procedures for initiatives and capital projects involving electrical systems and distribution of power. This position will facilitate standard process audits to ensure compliance at all A.O. Smith facilities and will help educate and build awareness within our manufacturing workforce and help ensure that our electrical safety programs raise awareness and provide protection for all workers when their job responsibilities expose them to electrical hazards. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert electrical guidance & support for electrical & power distribution assets, associated infrastructure systems, and equipment integrity & functionality. 
  • Provide advisory support for asset care strategies to ensure critical equipment PM activities are current (IR thermography, exercise & test breakers, etc.) and compliant with safety standards (arc flash assessments, LOTO, etc.).
  • Facilitate standard process audits to identify continuous improvement gaps and ensure compliance with electrical safety standards & regulations (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, etc.).
  • Coordinate baseline mapping of electrical and power distribution systems, ensuring single line drawings and field labelling are current, and both align with an effective LOTO execution.
  • Provide expert electrical engineering review of and support for strategic initiatives & capital projects involving electrical systems and distribution of power, ensuring alignment between need, technology, and application.
  • Educate and build awareness within our workforce, ensuring electrical safety programs provide full protection for all workers when their job responsibilities expose them to electrical hazards.
  • Coordinate review of master equipment and process specifications for content & suggested upgrades ensuring compliance with defined safety standards & regulations.
  • Provide electrical process engineering support for energy footprint reduction initiatives (including global energy council) and for automation & controls technology related activities (including controls technology council) to help achieve defined goals & objectives.
  • Perform other activities as business needs require.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field from a 4-year college or university (electrical engineering preferred).
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing processes and work environments.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical specifications, standards, regulations and their application within electrcal equipment & power distribution systems, equipment integrity and functionality within a manufacturing and/or product testing environment.
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional, multi-site relationships that promote cooperation and consensus between global team members (process standardization).
  • Able to plan, develop, and execute tactical and strategic manufacturing initiatives, and must carry out duties with utmost integrity.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally (upwards of 50% or as business needs dictate).

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated, self-starter who can prioritize based on overall goals and objectives.
  • Good project management skills with proven ability to influence without authority.
  • Electrical Safety experience and Certifications (a plus).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with computers and programs, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
