This role is located in our modern Nashville Metro Center office, located just minutes from downtown with easy interstate access and free parking.

What You Will Do

As the Transportation Manager , you will  be responsible for directly supporting task related to the design, implementation & execution of the North American transportation network. This includes working with the Sr. Transportation Manager on carrier management and selection, negotiations, and contract management for domestic shipment execution. In addition, you will develop, utilize, and maintain data driven metrics (KPI’s), and perform detailed analysis to support ongoing business requirements.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Work with the Sr. Transportation Manager on carrier management activities which includes rate negotiations and contract administration supporting the A. O. Smith North American Distribution Centers and Manufacturing Plants
  • Manage & maintain carrier lanes, negotiated rates and other master data as required to ensure efficient, automated payment processes in the SAP TM system   
  • Supervise the freight payment team responsible for timely payment of carrier invoices, and ensure freight claims are tracked, processed, and resolved. Approve carrier invoices as required
  • Prepare department budgets and ensure operations fall within budget for Transportation & SG&A expenses
  • Prepare annual transportation spend forecast, and quarterly updates as required to support corporate financial planning requirements across all N. American business units
  • Support the Transportation Planning team responsible for arranging inbound & outbound transportation from our Distribution Centers and Manufacturing Plants across North America
  • Liaise with DC Managers across N. America to ensure carrier capacity supports distribution needs
  • Investigate and Lead initiatives to implement cost-savings and optimization strategies for entire AOS North American Transportation network
  • Manage carrier scorecard metrics and drive operational improvements with carrier base & DC’s
  • Monitor critical KPIs & leading indicators across all N. American locations on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis (as required)
  • Share and explain KPIs and leading indicator trends with leadership to draw attention to outliers and opportunities
  • Understand the N. American organizational priorities to assist with the design and identification of KPIs that align with critical success factors
  • Participate in AOS initiatives (as required)
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field
  • Minimum of 7-10 years related work experience in related field (i.e. logistics, supply chain, etc.)
  • Experience in multi-site manufacturing and distribution, preferred.
  • MBA preferred
  • SAP experience is highly desirable
  • Background in Customer Service, Commodity Management or Supply Chain
  • Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong analytical capabilities­­ -­­­ Excel, statistical modeling, network design
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Excel Analysis, Celonis)
  • Experience in high-volume, multi-site distribution with a solid understanding of TMS / ERP Systems
  • Knowledgeable in all modes of Transportation-TL, LTL, Ocean, Air, Small Package
  • Knowledge of all DOT rules and regulations
  • Strong Communication / influencing skills capable of maintaining positive internal/external relationships
  • Capable of leading, training, and developing a team and working cross functionally with other areas of the business
