Primary Function

As the Laboratory Manager you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the operation of a State certified Lab (Clean Water Testing) in accordance with policies and guidelines as directed by Management including: supervision of all lab activities; lab accreditation; calibration, repair and maintenance of lab equipment; and purchase of all lab supplies and tools.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Directly supervise all lab personnel.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, guidance, training, backup, and support for all lab personnel
  • Operate, maintain, and repair analytical instrumentation including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GFAA, CVAA, Ion Chromatography, and Flow Injection
  • Maintain state certification of the lab, including overseeing all quality assurance and quality control requirements and preparing and responding to all lab audits
  • Expand laboratory capabilities to include additional drinking water parameters
  • Provide yearly budget input to Management for subordinate employee salary adjustments, tool and supply requirements, as well as necessary capital expenditures for laboratory upgrades and maintenance.
  • Additional responsibilities may include sample coding, sample preparation, routine sample analysis, sample container preparation, and helping customers assess results.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in an appliance development laboratory environment.  
  • Must possess a high level of mathematical aptitude must be demonstrated.                       
  • Model making skills and skills in the use of model making equipment and laboratory equipment and computers are preferred. 
  • Must be able to read and understand technical documents, bill of materials, dimensional drawings, etc. 
  • Must be able to interpret project direction with limited background and respond positively to rapid changes in project priorities.
  • Skills in the use of laboratory equipment and computers are preferred. 
  • Associates technical degree
  • A degree in chemistry or closely related field is desired

 

Years of Experience

2-3 Years of Supervisory/Leadership Experience
Minimum of 5 years related work experience
