Primary Function

Based out of the North American Water Heating business unit headquarters outside Nashville, TN, the Human Resources Manager works closely with North American Water Heating (NAWH) business unit leadership team and NAWH Human Resources team to deliver on the A.O. Smith Values, business unit objectives, and people strategy.  This role is a key member of business unit HR leadership team and reports directly to the Human Resources Vice President.

Responsibilities

  • The Human Resources Manager will be the primary Human Resources leader to several functions within the 5,400-employee NAWH business unit, offering both strategic and operational leadership and support in the areas of talent management, organizational development, employee engagement, performance management, compensation, workforce planning, and employee relations.

    Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Contributes strategic and expert advice to all levels of leadership on critical business and workforce strategies to support organizational objectives.  Keeps current on marketplace and functional trends to identify current and future opportunities and potential risk; translates insights into value for the organization.
    • Challenges status quo by promoting an environment of continuous improvement and creating a mindset where extra effort, engagement, development and accountability generate greater results for the employee and the company. Uses continuous improvement mindset and problem-solving tools to analyze the effectiveness of Human Resource programs, processes, and policies to develop, recommend, execute, and sustain improvements.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications - Required

    • High level of integrity and character.
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required.  Degree in in Human Resources, Business or a related field preferred.
    • 5 years of progressive HR experience with proficiency in HR systems.
    • Experience leading and developing others.
    • High EQ continuous learner with a growth mindset.
    • Results-oriented – sound decision-making, operates with high sense of urgency and consistently delivers on commitments.
    • Ability to build rapport and effective relationships at all levels within the company.
    • Aspirations, motivation, and potential for promotional roles in the future.

    Qualifications - Preferred

    • Experience in matrixed organizational structure for market leading, values-based company.
    • Strong leadership presence with ability to influence and coach senior leaders.
    • Sound critical thinking skills with ability to navigate ambiguity and change for results.
    • The ideal candidate will have experience within an organization that has undergone or is currently undergoing a “lean” transformation.  Understanding of when and how to utilize basic “lean” tools (A3s, Daily/Visual Management, etc.), in addition to experience with the processes to surface and solve problems, is preferred.

This role is eligible to participate in our remote work program, which allows employees to work remotely up to two days per week.  New employees in eligible roles can apply for this program after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment.
