Primary Function

Work with internal warehouse staff, international suppliers, and customers in order to ensure the timely and efficient movement of international freight, while also ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations are followed, and striving to limit the costs associated with international freight, Customs duties, taxes, and other fees. Understand and quickly create import and export shipment documentation, as well as analyze them for accuracy. Understand FCL and LCL shipping, negotiate with Carriers, Freight Forwarders, and Brokers during the international freight bid process. Ensure continued compliance with Customs and other government agencies by assisting in the classification of goods, application of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) rules of origin, and in the performance of various auditing activities in order to maintain a high degree of trade compliance.

This role is eligible for a remote work schedule of up to two days remote work per week. New employees are eligible to apply after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment and training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide import/export support to end-users. Track shipments and documents throughout the shipment lifecycle. Understand Customs procedures and work with appointed agents and Customs Brokers. Provide clear Customs documentation for Import and Export shipments. Work with customs brokers to ensure rules and regulations compliance. Strong knowledge of customs brokers internal processes required.
  • Keep meticulous records in order to meet record keeping requirements. Efficiently expedite correspondences (some of which may be confidential) and update records accordingly.
  • Conduct audits of import and export documentation and procedures. Monitor, maintain, operate, and analyze CBP and/or CBSA websites and tools. Monitor and respond to official Customs inquiries and alerts.
  • Conduct restricted party screenings of business partners and end users, document screening results and make determinations of approval/denial status with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct HTS classification determinations, including gathering and analyzing technical data in connection with product/parts classification projects. Assist customers and suppliers with HTS classification questions. Create Customs binding rulings requests.
  • Analyze C-TPAT procedures for various corporation locations. Conduct C-TPAT audits, site visits, and verifications.
  • Analyze the eligibility of goods for various Free Trade Agreements, including USMCA. Perform and document regional value content analyses as required by various free trade agreements.
  • Compile, organize and analyze complex information for inclusion in reports and other data analysis efforts, to include regularly scheduled reporting requirements of sufficient detail to support business decisions. Develop and maintain internal cross-functional databases that support decision making.
  • Assist in the solicitation, collection, analysis, and renewal of compliance affidavits, including the support of Conflict Minerals, RoHS, REACH, and other compliance requirements.
  • Perform other related support duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree required.
  • Customs Broker License required.
  • 5 years of related work experience.
  • Must have HTS Classification experience. Experience with binding rulings preferred.
  • CBP website knowledge regarding C-TPAT, ACE, SNAP-R, AES, CAED.
  • Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
  • Prior experience working for a brokerage or forwarding firm is preferred.
  • Leadership experience, and experience working within a matrix organization required.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required to help resolve routine problems, answer general questions, and know when to escalate more complex issues.
  • Microsoft Office Suite and SAP experience required.
  • Experience with managing large data sets and database development required.
  • Concise written and oral communication skills, the ability to train others in a group setting, and the ability to deliver presentations to large groups required.
  • 10% travel
