Hybrid Work Arrangement

Based out of our Ashland City, TN office, this role is eligible to participate in our hybrid work program, which allows employees to work remotely up to two days per week.  New employees in eligible roles can apply for this program after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment.

Primary Function

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the efforts of the Transportation Operations group to ensure effective load planning, dispatching, and in/out-bound delivery to meet customer needs and maintain cost-effective strategies.

Responsibilities

  • 10-16 direct reports
  • Supervise activities related to dispatching, appointing, routing, and tracking.
  • Prioritize, organize, and plan the daily work of Transportation Operation’s staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Receive, fully investigate, and resolve all customer related issues.
  • Serve as the escalation point of contact for Transportation Operations information to and from other AO Smith departments.
  • Maintain carrier rates and lanes for transportation services in the TM system
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and update Transportation Management Staff on open action items and new issues.
  • Oversee and implement schedule policy changes.
  • Assist and lead in the development and maintenance of processes and procedural manuals.
  • Work with carriers to ensure timely planning, pick-up, and delivery of all outbound shipments.
  • Monitor inbound shipments and assist in establishing priority based on outbound requirements.
  • Supervise all expediting of customer shipments to ensure price control.
  • Perform daily reporting to site assembly line personnel to advise each item that is needed to complete loads to assist with COT performance.
  • Track and expedite intercompany transfers needed to complete customer orders to prevent order shortages.
  • Monitor non-conforming product reports to prevent shipment delays.
  • Troubleshoot lanes that encounter service issues.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work on projects to improve and optimize logistics processes assigned by the Transportation Support Manager or Director of Transportation.
  • Attend quarterly carrier reviews for truckload and less than truckload carriers.
  • Perform analysis and modeling by utilizing Maxload.
  • Work with all carriers to ensure that AO Smith has the support needed on a weekly basis to cover loads and work with the Director of Transportation to resolve capacity issues.
  • Monitor, supervise, and troubleshoot freight spending by ensuring the operations planner team is utilizing available resources to proactively use the most cost-effective method for delivery to our customers’ on-time and complete.
  • Work with sales and customers to ensure satisfaction on all deliveries.
  • Ensure Monthly, quarterly, and yearly shipped unit goals are meet.
  • Monitor the plant allocation process to ensure orders are shipping from the most strategic locations.
  • Work with DC managers to predict and smooth out the workload for each distribution center.
  • Optimize and expedite released shipping guidelines in accordance with operational needs by quarter and year end.
  • Support NAWH, Lochinvar and NAWT in Past due order management to minimize backlog and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Work with Order Fulfillment Analyst to ensure transportation data is being accurately pulled and allowing the examination of data to find trends that can assist in order fulfillment.
  • Assist in network optimization initiatives to eliminate waste and increase efficiency in building and shipping product from the closest plant to the customer.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain management, or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related experience
  • 2-3 years of Supervisory/Leadership experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation and load planning
  • Thorough understanding of carrier rate structures.
  • In-depth knowledge of optimization software and other transportation related tools
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with various levels of the organization and external customers/carriers
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other reporting tools.
  • Strong customer orientation, sense of urgency, problem resolution and resource management skills required
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Related Field
