Primary Function

Our A. O. Smith Water Systems location in Charlotte, North Carolina, manufactures expansion tanks and water storage tanks.  The HR Supervisor / EHS Coordinator will design, implement, and monitor a variety of human resources and safety programs.  The HR Supervisor / EHS Coordinator will also anticipate and plan for long-term human resource needs and trends in partnership with business management. 


  • Excellent time management skills, as well as the technical knowledge of critical path of execution (understanding time sensitive, regulatory, or compliance related tasks that must be prioritized over other actions including which order of execution).
  • The ability to learn, accept, and thrive within A.O. Smith's system of operations (policy, protocol, chain of escalation) and perform HR / EHS function in accordance to A.O. Smith's operating policy. 
  • Independent decision making confidence as the site's sole area coordinator and leader to follow all stated protocol, validate policy is being executed correctly, communicating when deadlines are not met, and asking for help when unclear, unknown, or wrong.
  • Manage tactical items and prioritize them accordingly, based on being an HR department of one.
  • Promotes positive employee relations through design, communication, and interpretation of human resources policies and programs.
  • Participates in managing local recruiting and hiring practices.
  • Maintains effective staffing levels by establishing and maintaining an effective recruiting, interviewing, and hiring program.
  • Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practices.
  • Provide site support for HR functional assignments and implementations.
  • Remain visual on the production floor, daily.
  • Represent facility on the A. O. Smith Global EHS Council.
  • Provide site EHS support through direct assistance from  A.O. Smith EHS subject matter expert(s).
  • Prepare and provide various EHS reports.


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2+ years of related work experience or training required
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Prior EHS work experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral Communication Skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to deal comfortably with all levels of management
  • SAP, SuccessFactors and/or Kronos Experience preferred
