Primary Function

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will direct all activities of Manufacturing Engineering, CAM Programming, machine/tool design, Maintenance Department and facilities management.  In addition, you will manage planning and support of all present and proposed operations, future expansions and new facilities, plan and maintain capital budgets, plan and implement effective cost reduction programs and support manufacturing operations as required to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assure safety of equipment, facilities, and work procedures.
  • Lead Manufacturing and Controls Engineering activities to achieve cost reduction and new product launch objectives on time and within budget for water heater component manufacturing site.
  • Assure product quality through the implementation and maintenance of capable processes and process control plans.  Actively participate in process FMEA’s for new product designs.
  • Develop long range facility and process plans consistent with lean manufacturing principles to achieve quality and capacity requirements.
  • Oversee the approval process for all new equipment (machine capability studies, etc.).
  • Plan and control annual department and capital budgets.
  • Develop a 3-year capital plan to eliminate equipment capacity constraints preventing attainment of plan.
  • Perform cost / benefit analysis of proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived justify expenditures.  Recommend appropriate projects to management.
  • Coordinate the development of “green sheets” to authorize capital expenditures.
  • Maintain accuracy of labor routings and standard cost.
  • Responsible for planning and controlling expense spending to operate facilities, equipment, and departments effectively and efficiently.
  • Administer cost reduction program to assure continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement project management methods and procedures.   Maintain records of expenditures and research findings.  Issue progress reports to inform management of status of each project.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors to perform studies or support operations.
  • Manage, recruit and develop Team to assure continuing process capabilities and professional growth.
  • Responsible as part of management team for the health and wellbeing of manufacturing employees and facilities.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 7  years experience in manufacturing, high volume preferred
  • Minimum 5  years Experience managing a group of professional engineers
  • Prior experience with lean
  • Expertise in manufacturing to include project management, engineering, maintenance, quality, lean environment and employee relations.
  • Strong analytic skills, with ability to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers.
  • Demonstrated leadership as part of a cross-functional management team.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop reports.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • High level of proficiency in PC spreadsheets, CAD/SolidWorks and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills.
