Primary Function

The Welding Technician(1st Shift) will support the plant in reaching production goals by creating, modifying and documenting programs for welding equipment.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Create, Modify and document programs for welding equipment; including hard automation welders and robotic welders within WPS to produce welds that meet the internal code/specification stated on the print
  • Document and maintain welding parameters on the Welding Procedure Specification with the assistance of the Welding Engineer
  • Assist operators in all set-ups and welding adjustments, especially during change-overs, on automatic and manual welding equipment
  • Optimize welding processes, maintaining and improving weld procedures used in the plant
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment malfunctions, monitor results and report status
  • Perform in shop (OJT) and classroom training for operators in equipment and processes used in the plant
  • Responsible for collecting FPY data and other reports necessary to evaluate operator performance & equipment improvements
  • Assist Engineering in running weld tests and performing special tasks and projects related to welding.
  • Assist in analyzing, validating and implementing weld process modifications, program improvements, root cause of stoppages in the welding field, and other weld process related sources of downtime and scrap.
  • Conduct quality testing of welds and evaluate results.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 1 year of related work experience or training; or High School Diploma and 3 years of related work experience or training
  • Experience in troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of welding equipment
  • Assist in analyzing, validating and implementing weld process modifications, program improvements, root cause of stoppages in the welding field, and other weld process related sources of downtime and scrap.
  • Knowledge of welding technology (GMAW, SAW), testing and problem solving
  • Resistance welding experience a plus- will train
  • Robotics programming experience required- one year minimum
  • Experience instructing others in welding processes (classroom and OJT) a plus- will train
  • Must be able to work closely with production
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact constructively and effectively with peers and all levels of management
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Automation/PLC programming skills a plus-will train

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing and frequent bending and reaching.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds overhead and maneuver various parts weighting up to 50 lbs.
