Primary Function

We are seeking a Laboratory Certification Engineer to regulate the day-to-day technical operations of our Electronics Certification Laboratory located in our brand-new Product Development Center in Lebanon, TN.  The Laboratory Certification Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and UL60730 safety compliance tests are conducted per relevant standards and per the lab’s quality system.

Responsibilities

  • Subject-matter expert in all tests and test protocols within the labs scope.
  • Work closely with the lab manager to ensure the quality of technical operations in the electronics testing laboratory (i.e. ensure work is being done safely, repeatably, per the relevant standards- or UL prescribed tests.)
  • Train technicians and ensure they have and maintain the proper proficiency levels on all tests in the labs scope.
  • Work closely with the lab manager to revise SOPs for alignment with new standards revisions, train technicians on SOP updates.
  • Work with technicians to manage laboratory equipment, this includes calibration certificate review, monitoring of historical equipment degradation, and recommendations for new equipment.
  • Ensure proper documentation of test results, maintain records, and prepare reports for internal and external customers.
  • Troubleshoot testing issues and recommend/implement improvements to testing methodologies.
  • Key player in lab quality audits.
  • Perform compliance testing during peak demand- or technician absence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an accredited university
  • Working knowledge of standardized testing (e.g. EMC, environmental, safety, etc.)
  • Experience in lab operations, workflow, sample control, equipment calibration, and test execution
  • Experience with automated testing equipment and software. DAQ’s, PLC’s, LabView, spreadsheet automation, etc. (Python, C#, etc. programming expertise and their applications to test automation strongly preferred.)
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical standards and compliance requirements
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in technical documentation and reporting
  • Familiarity with safety and quality assurance best practices in a lab environment
  • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Able to deal with frequent changes in direction, remain objective under pressure
  • Able to use common office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Able to work autonomously once given direction
