Primary Function
As the Mobile Applications Developer you will report directly to the Director of Electronics and will work closely with BTS and external vendors to support the needs of the NAWH, Lochinvar and NAWT divisions. This role has responsibility for supporting the North American business units by managing all aspects of A. O. Smith’s market-facing branded mobile apps. This role will include adding enhancements/extensions to existing core app functions, as well as adding new features & functionality to the app to enable business unit success in IoT, Marketing and Product Support.
Responsibilities will include evaluating the landscape of existing apps across multiple business units and collaborating with key stakeholders inside & outside the organization to establish a long-term approach to standardize on a core platform/technology. Additionally, the app manager will be responsible for partnering with internal & external stakeholders to maintain, design, develop & launch app capabilities on the existing platforms.
This will primarily be a business-focused technology management role, with the requirement to build and maintain a functional consensus with the North American Water Heating (NAWH), Lochinvar, North American Water Treatment (NAWT), Engineering and Business Technology Solutions (BTS) groups to manage internal & external design & development resources to launch intuitive and innovative new app features.
This role is eligible for a remote work schedule of up to two days remote work per week. New employees are eligible to apply after successfully completing their initial 90 days of employment and training.
Responsibilities
- Gather customer UX and business unit requirements to formulate a comprehensive set of objectives for each business unit’s mobile app strategy, including: desired features and functionality to both maintain and add, design & development plans, testing and analytics.
- Create & maintain integrations with existing and/or added A. O. Smith-owned or licensed technologies including IoT cloud partners, authentication partners, CRM partners, email/sms partners and others as required by the business units.
- Manage all aspects of the relationships with app design & development vendors, including plans/budgets/capabilities/performance/contracts
- Provide project reporting on a regular basis
- Build consensus with key partners to adjust the plan as needed
- Provide insight to the business units to help them understand and evaluate ways to leverage new or existing phone capabilities, as well as emerging limitations & challenges
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- Flexible schedule for morning/evening calls for international collaboration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, technology or another related discipline
- 5+ years of experience managing mobile apps, with strong preference for prior experience with IoT platforms & integrations
- Experience working with/leading agile development methodologies
- Experience working with ecommerce-first websites and/or non-ecommerce branded manufacturing websites
- Experience leading teams to produce both technical and UX/UI deliverables
- Experience leading the efforts of vendors and internal teams to produce digital deliverables
- Managerial familiarity with app-side development in React or native iOS/Android languages
- Managerial familiarity with RESTful APIs; including both the consumption of existing APIs as well as articulating goals for the development & creation of new APIs
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks
