Primary Function

Build wooden bases, pre-fabricated crates or boxes to be used on the assembly lines for completed products.  Also crates selected service orders, show units and other specialty products. Assist other assembly areas.

Responsibilities

  • Reads production schedules, drawings, and other specifications, and inspects product to determine size and shape of container and materials to be used including types of support braces.
  • Lays out dimensions on materials with fixtures, ruler, measuring tape, pencil.  Saws materials to size.  Assembles crate parts using the pre-fab fixtures using pneumatic nail or staple guns.
  • Assembles and constructs wooden bases per the production schedule.
  • Build crates for service orders, and tradeshow units.
  • Attaches identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate.
  • Repairs broken crates.
  • Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders. 

Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Measurement/mathematical skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to use electronic information.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

  • Loud noises and limited exposure to dust and fumes.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe shoes/boots, ear and eye protection.  
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing and frequent bending and reaching.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds overhead and maneuver various parts weighting up to 50 lbs.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and with assistance
  • Use of wrenching, impacting, and/or vibrating tools (manual and automatic) is required occasionally for extended periods of time.
  • Variable hot and cold working environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
