Our McBee Plant is the largest North America water heater plant that produces commercial water heaters and boilers, using advanced processes like steel stamping, robotics, automated welding, and assembly. We manufacture high-efficiency water heaters, including gas, electric and tankless models. We own approximately 51% of the total commercial water heater market.

Primary Function
Our plant is accelerating its Smart Factory and digital transformation initiatives, and we’re looking for a motivated Computer Science student to join us as an intern. This role blends programming, hands‑on hardware installation, data collection, and real‑world manufacturing problem‑solving. You’ll work directly on the production floor, partner with operators, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to bring new technology solutions to life.
Responsibilities
▪ Collect and organize production data to support Smart Factory and continuous improvement initiatives
▪ Assist with programming tasks using HTML, JavaScript, C+, and Ignition software
▪ Install hardware and devices on the production floor, ensuring proper setup and functionality
▪ Work with external vendors to coordinate equipment installation and integration
▪ Support implementation of new digital tools and systems across the plant
▪ Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including engineering, operations, IT, and maintenance
▪ Build strong working relationships with operators to ensure smooth adoption of new technologies
▪ Work with graphics interfaces and Red Lion systems to support HMI and data‑display needs
▪ Assist with basic mechanical tasks related to mounting, wiring, or configuring equipment
▪ Contribute to SolidWorks tasks (a plus, not required)
Qualifications
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science (any year)
- Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and C+
- Familiarity with Ignition software or willingness to learn
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working hands‑on with tools and hardware
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, especially with production operators
- Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams
- Interest in manufacturing, automation, or smart factory technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- SolidWorks experience
- Exposure to industrial hardware, sensors, or controls
- Experience with Red Lion or similar HMI/graphics tools
