Primary Function

We have an immediate need for an Environmental Technician II on First Shift in our McBee, SC Engineering facility. The purpose of this position is to support operations through the operation/maintenance of a 40 gallon/minute physical/chemical wastewater pretreatment plant. Manage the collection, separation and disposition of recyclable materials to include pallets, cardboard, plastic and aluminum. Manage the storage and disposition of ordinary and special wastes and report any abnormalities or discrepancies to the Environmental Manager in a timely manner.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Operate a 40 gallon/minute physical/chemical wastewater pretreatment plant.
  • Maintain daily operational logs as required for efficient operation of the physical/chemical wastewater pretreatment plant.
  • Maintain mechanical components of the wastewater plant to include pumps, mixers, piping, hoses, valves, filter press, float switches, structures, etc.
  • Interface with the wastewater plant through an operator control panel and basic understanding of PLC control systems and troubleshooting.
  • Possess a basic working knowledge of electricity and electrical components including solenoid valves, switches, and motors.
  • Maintain daily plant and final discharge flow data.
  • Manage the inventory for wastewater chemical by monitoring chemical availability and notifying chemical vendors for inventory replacement as required.
  • Mix chemical feedstocks for the daily operation of the wastewater plant.
  • Adjust chemical feed rates to achieve the required effluent quality.
  • Manage daily housekeeping requirements for the wastewater plant.
  • Manage cleaning of process tanks, pits and grease traps as required.


  • Possess a working knowledge of the facilities wastewater discharge permit.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the facilities SPCC and SWP3 permits.
  • Manage and submit monthly DMR and SPCC reports
  • Conduct quarterly SWP3 walk through and knowledge of annual compliance reports
  • Possess a working knowledge of Title V air quality and preparing compliance reports
  • Coordinate water test samples with outside independent lab
  • Possess a working knowledge of SDS sheets for chemicals used in the wastewater plant.
  • Possess a working knowledge of air compressors, air dryers and emergency back-up generators.
  • Manage the disposition of ordinary and special waste by monitoring the containers and notifying the landfill for pick-up.
  • Assist in plant recycling system program and training
  • Knowledge of operating a cardboard compactor to prepare cardboard for recycling.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Operate a plastic compactor prepare plastic for recycling.
  • Segregate hard plastic, plastic bottles and aluminum cans into separate boxes for recycling.
  • Fill pallet/wood trailers with a forklift to recycle wood products.
  • Maintain housekeeping at the compactor area, pallet/wood yard and around the trash compactor.
  • Notify recycling/waste companies when enough material has accumulated for pick-up.
  • Assist with remediation issues as required or assigned.
  • Notify Environmental Manager of any abnormalities or discrepancies with associated environmental compliance activities in a timely manner.
  • Assist Environmental Manager in audits or reports as assigned.
  • Assist Environmental Manager with updating company EPA, DHEC records and action plans.
  • Assist Environmental Manager with special projects as assigned
  • Actively involved in health and safety committee if required.
  • Participates in monthly safety training and ability to conduct training if necessary.
  • Participates in all regulatory training as required to maintain a South Carolina issued Waste Water License.
  • Participates in any assigned training as required by the company or the Environmental Manager.
  • Regulates scrap material outputs acquired by employees.


  • Minimum of a current Class B Physical/Chemical Wastewater License issued by the State of South Carolina.
  • Capability of receiving higher level licensure.
  • Must possess a fork truck driver’s license or capable of acquiring one.
  • Computer packages (MS Office) experience.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Handling chemicals experience.
  • Material and Project management and control experience.
  • Ability to work weekend and off shift hours as required for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant and recycling areas.


Associate Degree in Related Field
