Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer - NPD Projects that is responsible for managing all aspects of new product development projects for Commercial Water Heaters and Boilers, small (6 months) and large (2.5 years), from design concept through production and product release.  The Project Engineer will also conduct theoretical analysis on product design concepts.


  • Participate in industry groups
  • Perform advanced engineering tasks under limited supervision
  • Assist with mentoring the engineering design team in development projects throughout the entire cycle from initial concept through successful completion
  • Collaborate with others on writing patents, papers, or trade secrets
  • Oversee all aspects of a significant engineering project from start to finish so that it is completed on time and within budget
  • Develop action plans and estimate requirements for resources including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete each project
  • Prepare monthly reports detailing progress and costs for top management
  • Develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field
  • Analyze and identify causes of component failures
  • Provide technical solutions to help solve manufacturing issues or address customer field issues
  • Lead the design group during the conceptual phase of product development
  • Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the team
  • Complete assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations
  • Coordinate activities of engineering team, contractors, and vendors as necessary


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 3 years of experience OR Master’s degree plus 1 year of experience OR PhD
  • 6 Sigma, FMEA, or gas combustion system experience preferred
  • Experience with CAE tools such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD or FEA, ANSYS
  • Exposure to Regulatory Standards such as ANSI, UL or DOE (Department of Energy)
  • Demonstrated in depth of knowledge of related field
  • Excellent analytical skills for reviewing and solving complex problems
  • Solid understanding of company processes and customers
  • Great communication and organizational skills
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills in order to balance multiple projects within a defined schedule and budget
