Primary Function

A. O. Smith Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing Recruiter on a contract basis to join our Talent Acquisition Shared Service team.  This position can be based out of our Global Headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, or in the greater Nashville area of Tennessee. Based on current and forecasted requisition volume, we are looking to add a full-time Contract Recruiter (1099 or C2C) for a long-term, open-ended engagement.  Our current need is for up to 40 hours/week but is subject to change based on business conditions.


The Manufacturing Recruiter will provide hourly general labor, skilled trades, and hourly office recruiting support to our North American Water Heating Division locations.


The Manufacturing Recruiter is responsible for partnering with local hiring managers to create and implement a job-specific recruitment strategy to attract highly qualified candidates. The Manufacturing Recruiter will also be responsible for the successful execution of the hiring process, creating a positive experience for all candidates, and surveying employees that exit the organization.


  • Manage and prioritize a large volume of unique requisitions
  • Create a sourcing plan to attract qualified candidates
  • Attract, source, and screen qualified applicants and candidates
  • Present a diverse pool of candidates for each open position
  • Develop interview and selection requirements and criteria
  • Manage the interview process to include conducting phone interviews, scheduling onsite interviews, presenting candidate offers, initiating background check and drug screen process
  • Maintain a relationship with hiring leaders to provide direction, track progress, and make adjustments to search strategies as needed
  • Stay current on best practices regarding sourcing, recruiting and technology
  • Maintain an understanding of the business, growth plans, and challenges


  • High school diploma required; post-HS degree a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years of hourly manufacturing recruitment experience is ideal
  • Experience prioritizing projects and recruiting on a high volume of unique requisitions which require sourcing
  • Proficiency with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) such as SuccessFactors
  • Experience sourcing candidates using a variety of recruiting tools (LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, Career Builder, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills to display approachability and trust and establish relationships
