The brand-new research facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin consists of state-of-the-art laboratories, collaborative workspaces and a friendly environment to empower our team to push technology limits.

Primary Function

As a Senior Electronics Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in our research and development activities by supporting the design, build, and verification of custom electronic test setups for laboratory equipment, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing test data, and troubleshooting results. Your expertise will help ensure the success of our advanced technology projects for A. O. Smith water heating and treating product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Circuit Board Assembly – manually assemble and solder circuit boards including surface-mount and through-hole components; low volume custom boards supporting research experiments.
  • CAD Design – use schematic, layout and routing software such as Altium to design medium complexity circuit boards with guidance from senior research team.
  • Electronic Systems Build – assemble and integrate electronic systems in support of research projects. Includes but not limited to power supplies, sensors, controllers, and wire harnesses.
  • Electronic Troubleshooting – independently diagnose and resolve issues in electronic systems.
  • Lab Experiments – plan, execute, and collect test data for laboratory experiments using standard electronics lab equipment under the direction of the senior research team.
  • Collaboration – work in a cross-functional team environment including electronics lab technicians and experienced team of researchers to research project experimentation needs.

Role Specific Responsibilities

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, or similar field, with 5 years related work experience OR 7 years of related work experience.

  • Significant hands-on experience in circuit card assembly, electronic system build and integration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with PCB schematic, layout, and routing tools such as Altium or Easy EDA.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and soldering stations.
  • Familiarity with developing test hardware and software on platforms such as National Instruments/LabView, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi a plus.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software tools such as MATLAB or Python a plus.
  • Ability to run lab experiments and capture necessary test data.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and assist in defining the scope of assigned tasks in an electronics lab setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

 

Education

Associate Degree in Related Field
High School Diploma or GED
