Primary Function

Review new water filtration designs from the perspective of system installations and apply field installation knowledge to new products or make design changes to existing products. This is a challenging position that requires foresight and conceptualization for a successful new product launch.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in industry and/or university groups
  • Act as lead mentor to the engineering design team in development projects throughout the entire cycle from initial concept through successful completion
  • Collaborate with others on writing patents, papers, or trade secrets
  • Manage all aspects of a complex and significant engineering project from start to finish so that it is completed on time and within budget
  • Use and apply advanced engineering principles within a particular field of specialization
  • Identify projects of value to the company
  • Work with multiple manufacturing locations to support projects
  • Develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field
  • Assist with communicating technical material to internal business units
  • Participate in functional best practices and demonstrate recognized expertise by operations
  • Develop system and documentation for specific programs that ensure products and services meet all contractual and program quality requirements
  • Conduct project meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the team
  • Identify Company needs and lead brainstorming activities to meet those needs
  • Keep abreast of competitor and new product activity
  • Conduct oneself professionally and in accordance with A. O. Smith values

Qualifications

  • Experience with designing plastic injection molded components in SolidWorks
  • Expertise in managing new product development projects including design, testing and production release
  • Excellent analytical skills for reviewing costs and preparing budget reports
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills in order to balance multiple projects within a defined schedule and budget
  • Water filtration experience is required; basic water chemistry experience is a plus
  • Great communication and organizational skills

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering

Years of Experience

Minimum of 5 years related work experience
