Primary Function

The Data Governance Lead is responsible for creating and ensuring adherence to data governance policies, standards, practices, and procedures. The Data Governance Lead will play an integral role in defining data governance in support of business and data strategy initiatives. The incumbent will work closely with process teams, systems integrators, and developers to identify requirements and define governance solutions for all data areas. 

This role will be part of a cross-functional team for data governance spanning metadata management, regulatory compliance, data quality, and data security initiatives to help implement governance processes across our data ecosystem. You will directly contribute to the success of our data strategy by working cross-functionally with data, legal, marketing, engineering, information security, operations, back-end services, and front-end technology teams to drive our governance strategy across our global footprint ensuring quality data that is both secure and compliant with internal and external guidelines.

Responsibilities

 

  • Support metadata management processes and standards across all data domains to ensure data integrity and standardization
  • Promote a culture of data governance by developing partnerships with data owners and stewards to promote data governance best practices
  • Represent the team in discussions with technical and business stakeholders globally as a subject matter expert on our toolkit and roadmap for data protection and consent management.
  • Understand business requirements, translating them into actionable specifications including how data should be governed
  • Help implement data governance performance and standards, while developing and implementing operating plans to achieve those standards via audits, automation and processes
  • Work with lines of business to identify and solve data integrity and quality issues, recommend data quality improvement opportunities, and establish metrics for tracking performance of critical data elements
  • Build Frameworks for Data Governance, Data Quality and Data Stewardship efforts
  • Provide data management and governance guidance and best practices for Modern technologies like Big Data and Cloud technologies.
  • Represent the team in discussions with technical and business stakeholders globally as a subject matter expert.
  • Help implement data governance performance and standards.
  • Work with lines of business to identify and solve data integrity and quality issues and recommend data quality improvement opportunities.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related degree with IT Experience or professional related work experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 5+  years of total Data Governance and Business experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • 3+ years managing an enterprise-wide data quality program 
  • Experience with enterprise Data Governance tools such as Informatica, IBM Cloud Pak for Data, or Collibra to support metadata management, lineage, cataloging, and workflow automation.
  • Knowledge of and alignment with the DAMA Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBoK) framework to guide governance practices, processes, and standards.
  • Strong sense of ownership over deliverables, as this role will have end-to-end responsibilities for certain data products
  • Good skills and knowledge of facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven ability to lead through influence.
  • Strong understanding of data, data flows and how data supports various business processes in a manufacturing/supply chain environment
  • Understanding of data quality and data risk management, including understanding of standards, methods, processes, tools, and controls
