Primary Function
The Global Process Engineer will work with the Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager, global engineering team and facility resources in providing subject matter expertise and ownership for the AO Smith energy & greenhouse gas footprint reduction, water stewardship, and facility risk management programs and related initiatives. This position will maintain a broad understanding of electrical and process safety specifications, standards & regulations (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, CSA, etc) applicable within manufacturing, assembly, and product testing facilities, and will coordinate the development & enforcement of related A.O. Smith metrics, policies, administrative controls, and training to ensure compliance requirements are achieved. This position will also provide project management support for business unit and/or site-specific projects (as business needs require).
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business unit and site-specific resources, along with the global manufacturing & process engineering team, and EH&S network to establish relationships and understand compliance gap challenges with primary focus on electrical & energy systems, and facility risk management programs
- Facilitate multi-site, multi-functional collaborative efforts (global energy council) in sharing ideas, leveraging learnings, developing strategies and “gap to goal” action plans, implementing standard administrative controls (suggested best practices) to address performance gaps and achieve annual goals & objectives
- Provide subject matter expertise (SME) and engineering support for capital projects and strategic initiatives ensuring robust electrical infrastructure asset care strategies (corrective & preventive maintenance), electrical safety standards compliance (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, CSA, etc), and facility risk & process change management governance
- Develop, implement and facilitate standard process audits to identify compliance gap action plans and ensure performance & suggested best practice sustainability
- Provide project management support and perform other activities as business needs require
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from a 4-year college or university (electrical or mechanical engineering preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with project management skills and proven ability to influence without authority in meeting defined goals, objectives & deadlines working within manufacturing, product engineering & supply chain work environments
- Knowledge of electrical specifications, process safety standards & regulations and their application within electrical infrastructure systems & related equipment
- Experience with energy & greenhouse gas footprint reduction and water stewardship programs (A PLUS)
- Highly motivated, self-starter who can prioritize based on overall goals and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate cross-functional, multi-site collaborative efforts and build relationships that promote cooperation and consensus between global team members

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use critical thinking to resolve challenges using root cause analysis and other tools focused on continuous improvement
- Strong leadership & coaching skills and able to plan, develop, and execute tactical and strategic manufacturing initiatives, and must carry out duties with utmost integrity
- Professional Project Management certification (A PLUS)
- Must be able to travel (upwards of 50% as business needs require)
- Organized with strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient with computers and programs, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc
