Primary Function
Provides support in all Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHSS) functions and coordinates plant wide safety and environmental efforts and compliance. Responsibilities may include but not limited to EHSS specific projects, program implementation, audits, training, compliance, risk assessments, and EHSS systems administration.
Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the HR Supervisor, develop, coordinate, and maintain EHSS projects and tasks related to local and corporate Safety and Environmental programs
- Work to integrate and maintain EHSS programs, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Work with plant leadership to execute and engage plant employees in EHSS programs and processes, including training, compliance, security standards and mitigating critical risks.
- Lead facilities with regulatory and corporate policy compliance
- Participate on the global A.O. Smith EHS council
- Conduct risk assessments and plant safety inspections at Stratford and Fergus Ontario locations
- Review and annually update the corporate ISO documents in EHSS management system.
- Manage Emergency Management Plan administration to ensure compliance across locations
- Perform the role of Joint Health & Safety committee employer co-chair
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. Equivalent certification or a related field experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in EHS Manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated understanding of safety and environmental requirements at the federal, provincial, and local requirements (OHSA and regulations)
- Position requires up to 25% travel, must be able and willing to travel to Stratford and Fergus Ontario, valid drivers’ license
Additional Qualifications:
- EHS Certification or experience for ISO 14001 and or 45001
- Train the trainer certifications in any EHS programs
- Proven proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Familiarity within unionized environments preferred, but not required
- Familiarity with Tableau or other similar visualization tools preferred, but not required
- Ability to prepare presentations and utilize effective training techniques
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment, a plus
- Must be able to work flexible hours to support 24/7 operations
- Ability to apply, lead, and implement programs to ensure compliance
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Strong communication skills to both listen and communicate, both orally and written, to all levels of the organization
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
